Plant Magazine Award for Green Oasis Pocket Park
Inspiring more substantial green spaces in the cities
The 2017 annual international Plant Magazine Awards have recognised a landscape design by Nilufer Danis with their Best Thematic & Innovative Project Award. The park was already awarded The Innovative Garden Special Prize by the organisers at EXPO 2016 Antalya when it was unveiled last year.
The Green Oasis Pocket Park in Antalya, Turkey was commission by The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) & Turkish Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters Union (OAIB), and is based on Green City concepts of sustainability. The aim of the design was to demonstrate the value of living green in cities and encourage investment in sustainable green spaces.
The Design Concept
Features in the garden include 21 trees, water fountains, a green roof, a rain garden, a pool, pathways, solar panels, sculptures, a planted table, insect hotels, a permeable paved surface and native plants.
The garden provides solutions to environmental problems within the site and services to comply with the principles of social, economic and ecological sustainability. In addition, it aims to provide inspiration and ideas for city designers, planners and homeowners by showing what can be done to turn urban spaces into truly Green Cities.
