Taichung World Flora Expo
Location: Taichung, Taiwan
Project type: PARK
Client: The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH)
This garden was exhibited at the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition and commissioned by the AIPH. The design concept is based on a combination of functions: sustainability, ecology, landscape and air quality improvement. It demonstrates how green spaces in cities improve the environment, social life and health of urban communities, and focuses on what green spaces can offer people who live in apartments without access to their own garden or outdoor space.
The green space spans 660m2 and includes seventeen ornamental trees and an orchard of eight fruit trees, vertical gardens, raised edible planting beds, an eco-friendly natural pond, a green roof, a rain garden, permeable pathways, solar panels, a planted table with an aquaponics (sustainable farming) system, insect hotels, outdoor gym equipment and native local plants.
It demonstrates how green spaces in cities improve the environment, social life and health of urban communities, and focuses on what green spaces can offer people who live in apartments without access to their own garden or outdoor space.
