Midtown park
A landmark community park
Location: Gibraltar, UKOT
Project type: Park
Client: Government of Gibraltar, Landform Consultants
After the success of our Commonwealth Park design in Gibraltar, the same clients have commissioned us to provide a master plan for a new park in a geographically significant location.
Our proposal transfers the former coach and car park into a cutting edge, green and sustainable park with minimalistic planting beds, numerous trees, open grass areas, pathways, multiple water features, shade structures and seating areas in a contemporary landscape setting.
The main pedestrian route creates an important visual link connecting the port area to the city centre. The proposed water cascades at the north-eastern entrance of the park provide a striking focal point that welcomes visitors into the park. This eye-catching water feature continues with several water fountains within the main pedestrian path to provide continuity, interaction, movement and cooling functions to the space. The new cafeteria will provide dining facilities and revenue for the park.
The boundary and avenue trees enhance the natural habitat and also provide shade for visitors. The multifunctional, lush grass and seating areas of the park create spaces for local workers to relax at lunchtime and opportunities for informal gatherings at any time of the day.
