Wandsworth Common

A small yet striking garden

Location: London, UK

Project Type: private Garden

Client: private client

Our client wanted to elevate their small garden with a modern and stylish look, whilst retaining their privacy.

Choosing the right scale of plants, species and appropriate colour tones was the key design trick to make this space appear larger and more contemporary. The existing overgrown plants made the garden feel smaller than it is, and the planting didn’t have any seasonal interest or colour. We removed all existing old shrubs and introduced ornamental grasses and appropriately sized herbaceous plants that give year around interest with their form, texture and flowers. We also replaced old fences with the new ones painted in colour tones to create depth, and installed a new paved surface to blend in with the house’s façade and interior design. Finally, we added a small attractive multi stem tree to provide a focal point and a few pleached trees at the back of the garden to create some height and privacy.

Following the implementation works, the new garden looks much more spacious, breathable and striking.
