A temporary housing solution
Location: London, UK
Project type: RESIDENTIAL
Client: Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners
Rogers Stirk Harbour and Lewisham Council created this temporary residential development on a disused site in response to the high demand for housing in the Borough.
The development uses a volumetric construction method and will remain on site for between 1-4 years, providing 24 homes for local people in housing need as well as eight ground-floor non-residential units for community and business use.
Our scheme included hard landscaping, public realm areas, street furniture, boundary treatments and bins and cycle stores in robust, quality materials that are environmentally friendly and low maintenance.
The planting scheme includes multi-stem Birch trees in planters along Lewisham High Street, and a hedgerow along the boundary line to provide a secure year-round enclosure. Removable planters filled with mixed shrubs and herbaceous planting add further interest.
‘’This scheme may offer a solution to an all too common problem that plagues many development sites, which often sit unused while complex regeneration plans are put together.’’
Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham.
